Today minister of Tourism Hon. Ali Waheed has announced that the government has shortlisted 29 new islands for resort development.
At tonights event “Burabi” held at Dharubaaruge, Minister of Touriam informed that most of the island or lands would be of the ‘ one island , one resort ‘ concept and few lands from currently inhabited islands would be allocated for tourism development projects.
Ministry also reitered that these new developments would compliment the governments decentralisation policy and all aspects of the projects would be handled closely along with the councils.
The government plans to announce the bidding for these islands in early 2020 and targets to launch the projects before the end of the presidential term.
