Description
Co-Load Maldives Pvt Ltd came into existence in the year 1986. Our first line of business was in cargo clearance involving air and sea cargo for importers and exporters with notable clients such the UNDP, Alcatel and Indoex (for an international scientific expedition), to name but a few.
We expanded quite rapidly and this helped us successfully enter into agreements with air cargo agents in the ASEAN and a few European countries that made us their agent in the Maldives, handling all of their customer requirements in all aspects of the trade.
This led us to become an exporter of dried and salted fish to Sri Lanka in the early 1990s which turned out to be a very successful business.
At about the same time, we became the sole distributor for Raleigh International of the UK. This again turned out to be a hugely successful venture, too. We opened an exclusive store to sell different models of Raleigh bikes in the capital city, Malé, which was the first store of its kind in the Maldives. This was the beginning of a trend-setting in the Maldives and we are proud to be the flag bearer for this in the country.
In 1994 we signed an exclusive agreement with the now Crown Paints Ltd of UK to sell decorative paints to the emerging construction industry in the Maldives. Subsequently we signed another exclusive agreement with Akzo Nobel of the Netherlands to sell their premium line, the Sikkens brand of automotive paints, in the Maldives. We are the exclusive distributor of Akzo Nobel’s world-leading aerospace coating, ANAC. We also signed an exclusive agreement in late the 2000s with Jotun Paints of Norway to sell their marine range of paints. We have two branded stores by the name of Colorbank in Malé selling these paint brands and stock the nation’s largest variety of paint related accessories. This too is a hugely successful business.
In 1999 we reached another milestone in our business. We signed a GSA Agreement with Maskargo of Malaysia Airlines to sell cargo space on their international routes ex Maldives. We formed a sister company by the name of Aero Express International Pvt Ltd to conduct this business. To this day, we are serving this prestigious Airline, delivering Chilled fish to Japan, Europe and Asian countries. We also signed a CSA agreement with Austrian Airlines Cargo, Thai Airways Cargo and Bangkok Airways Cargo around early to mid-2000.
In early 2000, we ventured into the luxury private jet handling in Airports nationwide and are service agent to prestigious jet service providers like Baseops International and Skyjet.
Year 2010 saw another huge milestone in our trade business growth. We signed a franchise Agreement with Ace International of Chicago, USA, to open the first store of its kind in the SAARC region. Our first Ace Hardware and Home Centre store was inaugurated at the Traders Hotel on 15th Dec 2011 by the then Vice President of the Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik and Mr. Mohamed Aslam, the Minister of Housing and Environment. The second store was inaugurated on 6th Feb 2014 by Mr. Bob Mosharack, President of Ace International and Mohamed Saeed, the Economic Minister. These are two flagship stores which have transformed the hardware and home appliances retail trade of the country.
We have ventured into education and opened up our first tertiary education institute by the name of Maldives Business School in 2010. The school is affiliated with the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and Edexcel of UK. It was officially recognized as a college by the Ministry of Education in 2013. The school is managed by a sister company called Educorp Consulting Pvt Ltd. We had, of course, been active in education since early 2000, establishing and running five computer education centres in four prominent schools in Malé, and one in Noonu Velidhoo School. The labs had catered to a student population of more than 4000.
We diversified into real estate and construction in 2011 through another sister company called Co-Load Developments Pvt Ltd. Presently we have two real estate properties of approximately 26,400 square feet of living space. We have also completed construction projects of approximately 41,400 square feet and currently construction is under way on approximately 40,800 square feet. Within this short span of time, we have established ourselves as a reliable and quality contractor in the Maldives’ construction industry.
