In an environment famed for its luxury resorts and within an industry where Maldives local island tourism was only introduced in 2011, Secret Paradise took the initiative to develop and champion a product that brings locals and tourists together in a mutually beneficial concept, with passion, enthusiasm and determination.
We have received a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence five years in succession and we were longlisted for the Responsible Tourism Awards 2015.
A scuba diver myself with a penchant for the Maldives, I left the UK 9 years ago following 25 years’ service with retailer British Home Stores, to establish Secret Paradise with my Maldivian business partner. Our mission to introduce the Real Maldives to guests and support local communities.
At Secret Paradise we believe the best way to experience the natural beauty of the Maldives and gain an insight into the culture and tradition of Maldivian life is to travel to a locally inhabited island, accompanied by a local guide. That is why we introduced our local island hopping tour over two years ago. Since then we have introduced a number of guided and non-guided tours including a Cooking and Culture Tour, a Multi Activity Tour and a family fun holiday. We arrange accommodation in local island guesthouses, run by and for local people; organise meals with island families and introduce guests to local crafts, Maldivian style fishing and the art of the cultural Bodu Beru music and dance. We can of course also ensure our guests experience all those other things for which the Maldives is renowned: diving and snorkeling, sunset safaris and relaxation!
